Privacy Policy

NextRead is a small app made by a small team. This policy is written in plain English because we'd rather you actually read it than scroll past it. If anything below is unclear, write us at hello@nextreadapp.com and we'll fix the wording.
The short version
- Your shelf and settings stay on your phone. NextRead has no account system and no server that stores your data.
- NextRead does not collect library card numbers.
- We don't sell your data, show you ads, or use your data to train AI models.
- To do its job, the app contacts a few third-party services directly from your phone. They are listed below.
- You can delete everything by deleting the app.
What stays on your phone
The books on your shelf and their order, your Goodreads profile ID, the library you chose (its name and its OverDrive ID), your app settings (for example whether Hoopla shortcuts are on), and which Libby holds you told the app you placed. This is stored locally on your device. We can't see it and we don't receive a copy.
Third parties the app contacts
These requests go from your phone to the service. We don't relay them through a NextRead server, and each service has its own privacy policy.
- Goodreads. To sync your shelf, the app fetches the public RSS feed of your "Want to Read" shelf using your Goodreads profile ID. We don't sign in to Goodreads as you and we don't write anything back. If your shelf isn't visible to Anyone, NextRead can't read it.
- OverDrive / Libby. To check availability and wait times, the app sends a book's title and author, and your library's OverDrive ID, to OverDrive's public catalog service. Tapping a Libby button opens the Libby app, where you place any hold.
- Apple Books / iTunes Search. In-app search and barcode lookups send your search text or a book's ISBN to Apple's iTunes Search service.
- Open Library. If a scanned book isn't found in Apple Books, the app sends its ISBN to Open Library.
- Amazon, Kindle and Hoopla. Only when you tap one of their buttons. The link opens in Safari, a web view or their app, and that service sees your visit as described in its own policy.
Camera. The app asks for camera access only when you open the barcode scanner. The camera is used on your phone to read a barcode. The ISBN is looked up as described above; the image isn't stored or sent.
Share links
When you share a book, the link looks like getnextread.app/book/{ISBN} and contains only the book's ISBN. When someone opens one, the share page (hosted on Cloudflare) looks up the book's public details, such as its cover and title, from Google Books. It doesn't show your library's availability and it doesn't know who shared it.

Feedback and TestFlight
The beta is distributed through Apple's TestFlight. Apple handles your TestFlight account and may share crash reports and feedback you choose to send with us, under Apple's terms. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
This website and the email list
If you give us your email address on this site, it is stored by Mailchimp and used only to email you about NextRead. You can unsubscribe from any email. We don't add anyone without a signup form. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which may log standard request data such as IP address, and its pages load a font from Google Fonts.
Children
NextRead isn't designed for, marketed to, or intended for users under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
The only personal data we may hold is your email address if you joined the list or wrote to us. You can ask us to show you, export, or delete it. Write to hello@nextreadapp.com and we'll respond within seven days.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and email the beta list before it takes effect. This page's address stays the same.
